September 26 Tour of 9th District

On September 26, 2012, 25 members and guests of NARFE Chapter 65 will tour the 9th US District Court. This courthouse, the James R. Browning U.S. Courthouse in San Francisco, has a long history. Begun in 1891, the 9th District has expanded from 2 authorized judgeships to today's 29. Judge Browning was nominated to the 9th District by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, and was the Chief Judge from 1976-1988. His service was terminated at his death, May 6, 2012. Read more about Judge Browning...

The following video, posted on YouTube, or linked from the 9th Circuit website (http://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/news_media/courthouse_tribute.php), is a wonderful introduction to the court, the courthouse, and Judge Browning.

Those who tour the court will need to bring a government issued photo ID, and pass through security before the tour starts, promptly at 11 am. If you need more information, please contact Leslie, NARFE 65 Public Relations Chair. For those who contacted Leslie after the maximum number was reached, a waiting list has been started. For those on the waiting list, please contact Leslie before 7 pm on Sunday, September 23.
