On January 16, 2019 NARFE Chapter 65 members gathered to explore NARFE webinars with our social media manager. Martha showed how to access NARFE webinars online, how to find legislative webinars, and why webinars are such at attractive tool to recruit new members. As a demonstration of the quality of webinars, the "Shutdown" webinar was shown in its entirety.
Here are a few photos from this meeting. You may not be able to tell from here, but Wednesday the 16th was a VERY rainy day! Much thanks to all the members who braved the storm and joined us for this informative meeting. And special thanks to Johnson and Dianne, who figured out how to display the computer slides on the big screen!

NARFE Luncheon at Olive Garden
On Wednesday, December 13, 2017, San Francisco NARFE Chapter 65 held its annual luncheon at the Olive Garden Restaurant in Stonestown Mall. We were joined by Lynda from San Jose Chapter 50, Judy from San Mateo Chapter 1317, and Angelo and Rita from Daly City Chapter 1539. Chapter 65 President Jerry conducted a vote on the the proposed bylaws, and they were unanimously accepted. Past President Jesse swore in the November-elected officers for another term: Jerry as President, Martha as 1st VP, Juanita as 2nd VP, Jane as secretary, and Dianne as treasurer. The lunch included 6 entree choices, soup or salad, a beverage and dessert. San Francisco Fire Department volunteers collected the toys we donated, and everyone wished each other "Happy Holidays!"
A slideshow of photos is available online, and the following movie was created with Google Photos. (If it doens't work, it will be fixed sooon!) Martha, Lynda, and Debbie all contributed photos.

2017 Annual Recruitment Drive
NARFE Chpater 65 has held annual membership drive events at the San Francisco Federal Building for the last several years, and 2017 is no exception. Membership Chair Mike Crahan led the team that included Helen, Martha, Juanita, Carole, Herman, Frank, Jerry, and Leslie, from Monday July 17 to Wednesday July 19. The issues facing federal employees and annuitants are even more pressing this year, and we enjoyed a warm reception by all, and added several new memberships by a considerable number.

NARFE Webinars
NARFE began offering monthly webinars in October 2015, and the response have been impressive. Thousands of members have attended these webinars, and hundreds of non-members have joined NARFE based on the ease and appeal of these informative presentations. Chapter 65 has produced a series of videos that introduce NARFE members and potential members to these webinars. Check out the newly-created "NARFE Resources" playlist.
Included in this playlist are "Exploring NARFE Webinars", "Signing In to NARFE Webinars - for Members", and "Signing Up for NARFE Webinars - for Non-Members". When you're ready to view past webinars, or sign up for upcoming webinars, head over to the NARFE Federal Benefits Institute.

A CAB for NARFE
Are you familiar with the Configuration Advisory Board (CAB) of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) association? Probably not. However, it's one of the behind-the-scene movers and shakers that helps our organization keep on track. Here's how CAB is described on its homepage:
The NARFE Information Services Department is working with the NARFE Configuration Advisory Board (CAB) to further advance NARFE in technology, as more and more members and officers use technology as their daily routine. CAB is made up of 10 members, one from each region, who represents chapters and federations. NARFE Members and officers are urged to contact their regional CAB Representative to voice their opinions or offer their suggestions for improving online data services. Here are the CAB objectives:
The overall objective of the CAB is to make recommendations that increase the operational efficiency and usefulness of the NARFE IT infrastructure and management, thereby enhancing the network's ability to support NARFE's overall operations. Security and cost are an integral part of the CAB process, and members should take every opportunity to address security and cost concerns during every phase of configuration management. All in all, it sounds like a worthy committee. What do you think?
